Summer 2023 Twilight Tours

By Benton SWCD | May 9, 2023

Benton SWCD is excited to announce a new outreach series for the general public – “Twilight Tours!”

Join us and other community conservation leaders as we introduce you to conservation/restoration areas you may not know about or normally have access to, provide ideas and resources for backyard conservation, and inspire you to undertake your own conservation efforts – big or small.

All tours will meet at 5:30 and run until about 7pm. You will receive details about your selected tour(s) the week before the tour date.

Sign up below for one or more tours at the following sites:

June 7 – Grand Oaks Neighborhood: the Grand Oaks HOA is implementing a management plan written by volunteers and approved by the city for highly protected significant vegetation (Oregon White Oak) in their neighborhood. Join Grand Oaks Landscape Committee members to hear about lessons learned, future plans which include planting native grasses, flowers, and shrubs, and discuss how to address the challenges presented by the interface of natural areas and highly maintained common and private spaces.

July 11 – Oak Creek: Join neighborhood resident and BSWCD volunteer Nick Cavagnaro for a look at his extensive home native plant garden. You’ll have the chance to ask questions and get answers about native plant gardening, and receive handouts and other resources to help you get started.

August 11 – Luckiamute Meadows: Located in the heart of King’s Valley, Luckiamute Meadows boasts a variety of habitats including wetlands, creeks, forests, and prairies. Private property for many years, this land was generously donated by the Hall family to the Kings Valley Community Trust to serve as a wildlife refuge. Come learn about partnership efforts and conservation projects while you explore this special place.
