POSITION OVERVIEW

The COA’s duties support the Invasive Species Program (ISP), Native Plant Program (NPP), Community Conservation Grant Program, and Youth Education Programs at Benton SWCD:

  • The ISP educates residents of Benton County about noxious weeds and their impact on working lands and ecology of local forests, rivers, and other habitats.  The COA will support this program by collaborating with partners to plan outreach efforts, surveying and monitoring weed control sites, and communicating with property owners and contractors.
  • The NPP conducts two native plant sales per year: the Winter Native Plant Sale and the Fall Native Bulb and Seed sale. We are also hoping to expand this program to offer more on-the-ground support to urban residents. The COA will support this program by working with nurseries to manage orders, assisting with volunteer training and recruitment, providing information and support to citizens, and developing educational opportunities and materials.
  • Youth Education: the focus of these efforts is our annual Salmon Watch program, a popular field-based experience for local 5th-8th graders. Duties include leading educational activities, on-site program coordination, volunteer management, equipment maintenance, and curriculum development. The COA will also support other education efforts at public events such as Winter Wildlife Field Days, Get Outdoors Day, and other events as requested.
